Delicious vanilla custard. You put it on waffles.

The problem with getting recipes from Granny is that there isn't really a formal recipe to speak of: she makes it up (and makes it perfect) every time. But here's my best guess.

Try it a couple times. It's one of those things that takes practice to get just right.

Ingredients:

6 cups milk add substitute (disabled)
2 tbsp butter add substitute (disabled)
or: 2 tbsp margarine
1 egg yolk add substitute (disabled)
1/2 cups sugar add substitute (disabled)
2 tsp cornstarch add substitute (disabled)
or: 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp vanilla add substitute (disabled)

Instructions:

Start warming up the milk over medium heat. Keep stirring it so it doesn't burn.

Add the butter, egg yolk, and sugar.

Mix the cornstarch in a separate bowl with some milk until there aren't any lumps left. Add it to the pot.

Add the vanilla. This is the delicious part; don't be shy.

Keep stirring everything over low-to-medium heat until it thickens. If it's not thick enough, you can always add more cornstarch or flour. But be patient.

Put it on waffles with some berries. Awesome waffles ensue.

P.S. Granny sez: you're going to have an egg white left over. Add it to the waffle batter for bonus fluffiness.
