A kind of cakey squarey thing that Mennonites like to eat. Ingredients:
2 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
4 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
6 tbsp milk
4 tbsp butter
or: 4 tbsp Shortening
1 cups sugar
1/2 cups flour
1/4 cups butter
Instructions:
Sift the dry ingredients together. (2c flour, baking powder, salt, and 4tbsp sugar).
Rub in the 4tbsp butter so it's all clumpy and crumby. Beat the egg, and add it to the milk. Mix the egg/milk concoction with the dry ingredients. Roll/press it out onto a cookie sheet. Throw on fruit of your choice. Recommendation: rhubarb and/or strawberries. Sprinkle on the the other portions of sugar/flour/butter. Bake at 375 until it's nice and brown on top. Eat for success.
